Alleged “hottie” Sarah Heath (Palin) in 1982, #22
You would think Senator John McCain would have picked someone not CURRENTLY BEING INVESTIGATED, but I guess not.
Public Safety Commissioner dismissal controversy
Governor Palin is currently under investigation by an independent investigator hired by a legislative panel to determine if she abused her power when firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. [44][45] On July 11, 2008, Palin dismissed Walter Monegan as Commissioner of Public Safety and instead offered him a position as executive director of the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, which he subsequently turned down.[46][47] Monegan alleged shortly after his dismissal that it may have been partly due to his reluctance to fire an Alaska State Trooper, Mike Wooten, who had been involved in a divorce and child custody battle with Palin’s sister, Molly McCann.[48] In 2006, before Palin was governor, Wooten was briefly suspended for ten days for threatening to kill McCann’s (and Palin’s) father, tasering his 11-year-old stepson (at the stepson’s request), and violating game laws. After a union protest, the suspension was reduced to five days.[49]
Palin asserted that her dismissal of Monegan was unrelated to the fact that he had not fired Wooten, and asserts that Monegan was instead dismissed for not adequately filling state trooper vacancies, and because he “did not turn out to be a team player on budgeting issues.”[50] Palin acknowledged that a member of her administration, Frank Bailey, did contact the Department of Public Safety regarding Wooten, but both Palin and Bailey say that happened without her knowledge and was unrelated to her dismissal of Monegan.[50] Bailey was put on leave for two months for acting outside the scope of his authority as the Director of Boards and Commissions. Commissioner Monegan received no severance pay, though at the same time another dismissed Commissioner, Charles Kopp (who served only 11 days) received $10,000.[51]
In response to Palin’s statement that she had nothing to hide, in August 2008 the Alaska Legislature hired Steve Branchflower to investigate Palin and her staff for possible abuse of power surrounding the dismissal, though lawmakers acknowledge that “Monegan and other commissioners serve at will, meaning they can be fired by Palin at any time.”[52] The investigation is being overseen by Democratic State Senator Hollis French, who says that the Palin administration has been cooperating and thus subpoenas are unnecessary.[53] The Palin administration itself was the first to release an audiotape of Bailey making inquiries about the status of the Wooten investigation.[50][54]

It looks on the surface like this is little more than someone on a witch hunt against Palin. If she had anything to hide they wouldn’t be cooperating to the point a Democrat would come out and say there’s no need for subpoenas.
I highly doubt McCain would take her if there was any juice to this story.

Politics is a tough business and, let’s face it, we can all see how the media holds women to a higher standard. If this is the best dirt the haters have on this woman, I’ll take it. She clearly has much more to offer this country.

Palin’s association with the firing does not concern me. However I suspect her family has historical heated “in-fighting” common to many families.
I feel uncomfortable with the sentence, “though lawmakers acknowledge that “Monegan and other commissioners serve at will, meaning they can be fired by Palin at any time.”
“At will” hiring is so often used as a legal vertical protective blanket by scrupulous managers, it’s mention by any employer raises a flag, and most certainly doesn’t lower it.

harvardtohardhat-
I have no idea where the rabbit hole of her scandal will lead, but it sounds like you are ready to brush it off as, “maybe it was abusive, but she can do good”. I wonder if you were feeling as charitable towards Bill Clinton during his affair- that got no one fired and was not an abuse of his position. (though an incredibly dumb and hurtful thing to do).
Cheers,
Tom

She also opposes abortions for rape and incest victims so to me she is just another example of how simple and close minded conservatives can be…
I also wrote some commentary on this on my blog, feel free to check it out…

Gee this is the best you lefties can do? How about Obama and his abuse of power trying to have a person prosecuted for creating a tv ad tying him to WIlliam Ayers? He gets caught lying about his ties to Ayers (remeber he claimed he was just some guy in the neighborhood, though now we know they have worked together on the CAC and Obama even kicked off his Illinois State Senate run from the guys house) and can’t defend himself against the commercial so he tries to use the Justice Department to prosecute. If you ask me being tied to an unrepentent hoe grown terrorist is by far worse than maybe or maybe not (I would go with the later seeing that Palin is cooperating) being involved in firing someone.

Rumors have grown like an uncontainable wildfire overnight as to whether Gov. Palin is Trig’s biological mother or grandmother. Watch this video filmed on 2/20/08 of the governor “hiking” to work. Trig was born less than 2 months later. Governor Palin’s a liar

Oh Jesus – the GOP pressured McCain into picking this woman not because she is a woman, not because she is any good, not because she runs a State of 700k people – it was because they could see the core base eroding before their eyes.
Christian conservatives and conservatives on a whole were saying “No” to John McCain – it is a last ditch attempt by the GOP to get John “Coat-hanger” McCain elected.
You don’t think they watched the DNC?
For a Harvard hardhat you certainly don’t fit that bill – more a neocon in sheep’s clothing!

They are now saying that Bristol is pregnant. If she is, it is likely that this will be her second child.
September 1, 2008 at 1:12 pm
While you are at it you might note that she was nearly asked to stand down as Mayor because when she got elected she then tried to fire some of the people who had not supported her campaign……
Sounds like this gal ain’t such a babe in the woods but more a mess with me and I ‘ll show you gal.
They don’t call her Sarah Barracuda for nothin’

Roschelle: That family photo was taken in 1996. Oops. The girl has a tummy bump like most of us. I hope she doesn’t see all the blogs. It will mess with her self esteem.
Look at this website:

The issue is not that Palin’s 17 year old daughter is pregnant, but the issue is that Gov. Sarah Louise Heath Palin lied about it and that Sen. John Sidney McCain, III knew about the lie and did nothing about it. Here are just a few of the character flaws of these two candidates.
1. One of them is already lying: When the Anchorage Daily News did report the news today (that Palin’s daughter is pregnant), it pointed out: “The Daily News had asked Palin’s press secretary, Bill McAllister, over the weekend to address rumors that Bristol was pregnant. ‘I don’t know. I have no evidence that Bristol’s pregnant,’ he said on Saturday.”
The McCain team asserted that he knew about the pregnancy when he selected Palin. She has five children and now a grandchild coming as she hits the campaign trail.
2. Palin is already a flip-flopper (a character flaw that the Republicans like to throw around a great deal). “I told Congress, thanks but no thanks on that bridge to nowhere,” Palin told the cheering McCain crowd, referring to Ketchikan’s Gravina Island Bridge. But Palin was for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it. The Alaska governor campaigned in 2006 on a build-the-bridge platform, telling Ketchikan residents she felt their pain when politicians called them “nowhere.” They’re still feeling pain today in Ketchikan, over Palin’s subsequent decision to use the bridge funds for other projects — and over the timing of her announcement, which they say came in a pre-dawn press release that seemed aimed at national news deadlines.
3. Palin, the “family values” candidate is already begging the media to ignore her lie “We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi’s privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates.”
John Sidney McCain, III tells crude and insensitive jokes. Is this the man we want in the Whitehouse?
• “Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?” he asked guests at a Senate Republican fundraiser. “Because her father is Janet Reno;” Said by John Sidney McCain, III in 1998.
• “The French remind me a little bit of an aging actress of the 1940s who is still trying to dine out on her looks but doesn’t have the face for it,” McCain told Fox News a few years ago.
• Another favorite has been the elderly. He has recalled groveling for forgiveness when, during his 1986 campaign, he referred to a retirement community called “Leisure World” as “Seizure World.”
• In 1999, in the course of apologizing for his joke about Clinton he recalled for reporters another bad joke: ‘I said, ‘The nice thing about Alzheimer’s is you get to hide your own Easter eggs.’” (Earlier in the 2008 campaign season, he reworked that joke to make himself the target.)
• McCain was also recently condemned by the government of Iran for suggesting that increasing U.S. cigarette sales to Iran could be “a way of killing ‘em.”
But most voters will not know about this aspect of McCain when they vote this fall. They don’t know that he’s a guy who uses the word “c–t” to describe his wife–in public. They don’t.
• In an appearance before the National League of Cities and Towns in Washington D.C., McCain supposedly asked the crowd if they had heard “the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die?” The punch line: “When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, “Where is that marvelous ape?” The joke, as one can imagine, did not go over well with various women’s groups, which responded with indignation. But the McCain campaign denied that he had ever said the offensive gag. “It’s pretty obvious to us that this is a politically motivated sideshow,” Torrie Clarke, McCain’s spokeswoman at the time, said back in 1986. Till this day it has never been proven definitively true or false whether the Senator ever said the line. The Huffington Post reached out to the original reporter in that story, Norma Coile (who after talking to multiple sources months after it was told wrote about the response to the rape joke in the Tuscon Citizen) to find out if she thought it was true.” I’m not sure exactly what the wording was of the joke, but something was said. Some joke involving a rape and ape was said. Enough women repeated it to me at the time and the McCain campaign had a non-denial denial,” said Coile, now with the Arizona Daily Star. “It came after his ‘Seizure World’ joke, in which he referred to the [retirement community] Leisure World as Seizure World… I just think it reinforced this idea that John McCain is humor-challenged. Whatever his qualities, he seems to have a tin ear for how these jokes will go over.”
John Sidney McCain, III and Sarah Louise Heath Palin are already beginning the lies for which the GWB administration has become notorious. We cannot afford another 4 years of the Bush type administration. These are selfish, inhumane people with our lives in their hands.
Before you tell me that any of this is untrue …Google it.

She didn’t even outright fired the guy, he was offered another position that he turned down. What concerns me more is that a state trooper tased a child and there isn’t an out cry for him to be fired. That was an abuse of power and a breach of public trust in law enforcement.

hmmm….
September 1, 2008 at 11:03 pm
It’s obvious that Palin and her family pulled out all the stops to have the ex-husband fired as revenge and as further evidence for their custody battle. Sounds like the whole family are not much different than most of the beer slugging trailer park rednecks.
What’s different? Money and job position – the mentality is the same.
The Govenor tried to exert her position of power to satisfy a vendetta. Whether the trooper is a butt head is besides the point, he was suspended. End of story! Don’t fall for the red herring.
The real story is how this woman thinks when she’s in a position of power. The true measure of her political character…which is now officially lacking.
McCain and Palin – really is more of the same, but now even BEFORE the next election!
(Bush, Rove and Cheney outting a C.I.A. agent anyone?)
Another personal vendetta…Republican style. What a joke!

Bec Thomas:
It’s obvious what went on. Especially when you consider the commissioner didn’t even receive severance pay, while an 11 day employee receive 10K.
Quit trying to stretch the truth in favor of Palin.
Everyone on this board knows what went on! Just shows how much bullshit people will throw in order to cover-up THEIR candidate’s incompetence or corruption.
Absolutely stinks to high hell!
What’s worse is people still vote ONLY for their team, rather than voting for what’s best for their country.

Well team McCain/Palin looks like really shitty pick right about now going into the playoffs!!!
The debates should be interesting…

The thing that makes me laugh about this whole circus is that fox news, all of these religious celebs, Dobson and the like, are rushing in to show their support for Palins daughter for having a baby out of wedlock at 17 years of age. They are saying how wonderful her and her family are, and that she made a mature decision, and this in no way reflects that maybe (Gov Palin) should spend more time at home, helping to raise her family. If I remember right, not too long ago a Ms Jamie Lynn Spears had the exact same situation happen to her, she also decided to have the baby and to marry the babies father…??? Where was all of this support then?? Instead, she was blasted by Fox and the Christian community saying that she was “glamorizing” teen age pregnancy, not to mention the horrible things that they said about her parents. They were unfit, their children should be removed from them….on and on. Does anybody else see maybe just a little bit of hipocracy here. It would be nice if somebody called them out on this. Maybe McCain should start running those Britany adds again.

It seems to me that the video produced in Feb. 08 of Sahara walking to work and the information about her baby being borned two months later would raise a question. This would put Trigs age at about 5 months. To claim that this is her daughters baby is a bit hard to believe. Because her daughter is at least 5 months pregnent now. You add the numbers up. Some one owes Sahara and the people of the United States of America an appology.
September 3, 2008 at 12:06 pm
Tom,
I hope your inference is not that I owe “Sarah” an apology since I never ran that story you are talking about… In fact, this post has nothing at all to do with any pregnancy, so I’m not sure what you are talking about.
Cheers,
Tom

Pathetic.
1. Legally she could have fired him any tim for any reason.
2. Even IF the firing was related to a cop who made death threats and tasered a kid, so what?
If this is the best the Obamaniacs can do then McCain-Palin will just stro~~ll across the finish line.
Obama’s becoming unhinged. He sounds more like a bitch every day.

Brent, I agree with you. When the Dobson crowd waxes political, they often create a double standard for their candidate. But the same conservative Baptist Church down the street from where I live would not allow such a member of the church.
I had a friend who was “asked to leave the choir” and eventually the church because she was divorcing her husband. Not a great marketing scheme for retaining membership. That same church has gone through pastors twice as fast than than leap years.

These conservative posts make me wonder about my countrymen. Palin is incoherent and could not be employed in my profession, much less lead a country. She has been in high office for less than 2 years and already has multiple proven scandals in addition to the one that is going to break regarding who built and paid for her house. Aside from exciting sexually repressed conservative men with her winks and flirtation, appears to have no redeeming qualities. She is an embarrassment to qualified women everywhere who groan when she attempts to speak. Yet, conservatives think this is great. I am not surprised they think nothing of her corruption. After 8 years of no-bid contracts, illegal wars which decimate countries and violation of all forms of the bill of rights which a typical conservative can not name, it appears that Palin’s corruption does not bother them either. Could conservatives please stop writing, and go pray in church, read Guns and Ammo or watch a cockfight or something, anything but typing. Thinking is not for you.

Boy, supersnapp, I shore ’nuff am glad we got someone edumacated like you to put us dumb conservatives in our right place, an’ all. I tell ya’, every time I start ta’ think I might be gettin’ ta understand all this pileaticks someone like you comes along and straightens me out! I guess I’ll get back ta’ readin’ my Bible, totin’ my guns and just plain hatin’ on all ya’all pro-choicers, ter huh huh!
I’d say I’m surprised by the sense of entitlement and elitism of Obama supporters, but I’m really not. Attitude typically reflects leadership, after all.
Geez, these keyboards got a whole lotta buttons and stuff. I better quit typin’ now cause the Good Lord knows I ain’t been proper trained in how to use one, and my head’s a startin’ to hurt, ter huh huh!
